Update from Japan

Well we are finally all settled in here in Japan. We are on the Yukota Air Base, just outside of Tokyo. It's a great location, close to the train and so we have been busy exploring for the past two weeks. Here is a preview of what we've done and seen! Above is a pict of Avery and I in Harajuku- my favorite part ot Toyko so far. I plan on heading back many, many times- great shopping! (Please ignore the unflattering shirt, yikes! Getting lighter fluid right now.)
Harajuku- seriuosly, that is a sea of people behind Richard. Avery is falling asleep as I take the pict. Poor thing has been drug all over! Oh well, we're only here for two more months, schedules and naps can wait till we get home!

We took a trip to Mt. Fuji last weekend. Here is the top of it. We were lucky to get to see it, it was really foggy but cleared up enough for me to get a quick snap of it. This is from the 5th station, halfway up the mountain.
5th Station of Mt. Fuji. This is where the road stops. It is really developed- hotels and restaurants built halfway up the mountain.

More at the 5th station of Mt. Fuji.

This is Avery AFTER our hike up to the 6th station. Pooped out again.
Hiking up to the 6th station. It was really eerie with fog rolling in. The colors where just changing too and really beautiful.
We made it to the 6th station! Only 5,000 more feet to go!
Ok, really cool waterfall we went to but I can't remember the name of it!
Tuckered out on the bus on the way home. Long day but lots of fun.

Hiking on Mt. Fuji, again.
more fuji.

Fuji.

Those of you that know Richard know that he HAS to keep track of what he eats on vacations. It's the most important part to him. So we're going to have a lot of meals to record in the journal since this is the longest vacation evah. I'm also finding that Richard is not afraid to try new foods, he's much more daring than I am! He's got an iron stomach and will put away almost anything. Just today he ate Octopus balls- not really thier balls, food shaped as a ball and some disgusting cabbage/egg/fish/crepe dish slathered in mayo. Picts of those to come. But this meal was pretty good. Sushi, dumplings, and some not so good bean curd pudding. He liked the pudding though, and went back for seconds. I stoped after my first taste. He's even gotten Avery to try a lot of new things. Today while eating the octopus balls a piece of octopus fell out of the middle of the ball and Avery said she wanted to eat it. She puts it in her mouth, starts chewing and says, "Hey, that's not too bad!" Guess she takes after her daddy. And yes, she is in heaven here with rice and noodles for every other meal. Her favorites! More updates to come so check back! We're having a great time but miss our friends and family!

WOW it looks like you guys have had a ton of fun already!!! Avery is getting so big, such a little girl. The food looks interesting, I am pretty sure Cliff and I would starve...neither of us would dare to eat anything like that:)

Wow! It looks like you guys are having an amazing time! I must admit I'm a little jealous. One of my life dreams is to travel the world--don't know how those opportunities come to school teachers/ranchers, however. Enjoy your time there. What a great opportunity!

Lori, YOU'RE IN JAPAN! How much fun, and you're right Avery sounds like a great sport. I loved her food comment, "that's not too bad." The older I get the more scared of food I become. What a fun adventure for you and your family. I hope you love it!
