Tokyo National Museum, etc.

Well, I'm sure most of you don't care about all the little details of our trip. Too bad. I decided that since I don't scrapbook that this is how I'm going to organize and keep track of all that we did in Japan. Then someday I'll print it all out into one of those cool blog books and be done! So this last weekend we went to the Tokyo National Museum. It was fascinating, but not for Avery and she was a complete nightmare until I got her to finally fall asleep, about halway through. From then on we could enjoy the museum in peace. It was amazing to see art and archeological finds from as far back as 800 B.C.- wow! Talk about a ton of rich history here! Of course Richard was totally fascinated, and also dissapoined we didn't have time for him to reach each and EVERY single sign. I'm a looker, he's a reader, so 4 hrs at the museum was plenty for me and he was just getting started!
Obviously not the museum- but this is a picture taken while biking to the train station. One thing Rich and I find really interesting here in Japan is the use of land. Nothing is wasted is seems. No yards, not empy lots- space here is either built on or farmed. They will squeeze gardens in the smallest of spaces between houses or on empty lots between huge commercial businesses. I think it's really neat and a great use of space. Seriously, no space is too small and I think it's cool that they have edible yards!

Fountains at the Ueno Park where the museum was. Kind of reminds me of a smaller version of Central Park.

Outside the Museum Gates.

The museum was comprised of 5 different buildings. This one was the main building and I thought the architecture was really cool. We didn't take any picts while inside- no flash allowed and it was just too dark.

Avery looking cute as always!

After our long day we were starving! We tried something new- curry rice with a fried pork cutlet. It was ok.

Rich got a rice omelet with curry. Again, not too bad. We find ourselves saying this more and more often. At first I found a few things I really loved, but lately the food is getting a little old.

But this never gets old! Avery's meal- RICE! She eats a big plate of rice every chance she gets and loves it!

After the dinner we went shopping down this busy street. It was so crowded and pouring rain, so we didn't do much more than window shop, but it wa still fun.

We rode the train home and when we got to our bikes it was STILL POURING! We had rain jackets but still got drenched by the time we were home. Poor Avery, but she was a really good sport. I didn't hear one complaint from the back of my bike.
