American ShmIdol

First of all, shout out to all my fellow fluent Shmi language users. You know who you are.

Secondly- what the heck is up with American Idol this year? I have really started to loose the love, especially after Tuesday night! Ahh, it was terrible, painful, horrible renditions of some of my favorite songs! Seriously, I am (and Richard too, he OPENLY admitts it, this is how serious we are) a HUGE Dolly fan. That's right, laugh it up. I love love love her. She's my girl. She has bad hair, plastic face, fake knockers and really bad fashion sense, but that's all part of her charm. She's made a fortune off of that gimic, and I can totally respect that. Plus, she is an AMAZING songwritter, and her voice just melts my heart, calms my soul and reminds me of days of yore! If any of you are doubting me, I will give you a playlist of hers that will totally convert you! Her bluegrass music is so, so good!
Anyhoo, on to the ones who killed it all on Tuesday night! I was so excited when I found out it was Dolly night on American Idol! I was literally on the edge of my seat, that is until it started. Agh, so bad! Almost every one of them was an embarassmet! They all tried to pretend like, oh, this is so huge for me, I'm such a big fan, yada yada yada, but half of them sang like they had never heard the song before. Seriously, we don't need any Johnny-come-lately's in the Dolly fan club, so why'd they all pretend they were such "HUGE" fans. The only ones I will give credit to are a)David Archuletta- because he picked one of my fave songs and actually sang it like he knew it and b) the only one, in my opinion, worthy of really any credit because he not only sang a Dolly fave, he KILLED it- Michael Johns. Loved his rendition of It's all wrong but it's all right. Loved it.

So, to end my rant, I just want to shout out to Dolly and all the fellow Dolly lovers out there, even if you are a closet fan. You know you love her!

I definitely don't appreciate Dolly as much as you do...all my music memories of her took place long long ago, while riding up the Alcan highway to one of our family reunions, with my mom's Dolly country music blaring relentlessly the entire ride up...we kids were too young to have an opinion, so we were a quite captive audience, but I was obviously not too young to remember and be scarred for life! Oh, the horror!

But now that I'm older I've recovered and have come to terms that she really is amazing! And she is just SO adorable!! And though this week's AI really was less than moving (I didn't even bother voting, I was so unmoved), I don't think ANYONE could sing a song as good as Dolly...there's just something about her that no one can match. I still love AI though!

You are hilarious. I too love Dolly. I was most excited to hear Jolene and Coat of Many Colors because they are classic Dolly and two of my favs. Too bad they weren't done justice.
Of course that was three weeks ago and we've moved onto butchering Andrew Lloyd Weber. Another guilty pleasure of mine. Still, I think the Davids rocked the house Dawg.
