Should I??????????????

Ok, so I need your help. I have been boycotting reading any of the Twilight series for a while now. I just didn't want to get caught up in them and I always feel guilty reading books like I assume these are when there is so much great literature out there I haven't read yet. However, lately I have been tempted to read them, just to see what all the hype is about. Not to mention I have a lot of time on my hands here to read, so if I was ever to have to get through a series and not feel guilty about the house cleaning not getting done, it would be while I'm here. With housekeepers. So, I need your opinions and advice. Should I? Or shoudn't I? I have already checked Twilight out from the library here on base and it is sitting on the table staring me down, but I just don't know if I dare open? I have decided to leave the fate of wether or not I read it completly up to you all, so please leave a comment and tell my why I should read or why not. Whichever side gets the most votes is the decision I will go with. I promise, so give me yoru feedback! Oh, and I don't like to be without reading anything for long, so I'll make my decision by Saturday morning, cause I need a book for our long bus ride! Thanks for your help!

I got to the final book, and had less than 100 pages to go when I finally just quit reading. How good can a book (or series) be when you can just walk away at that point? Just my opinion . . .

All my friends told me to read it so I tried it. You know me and I love to read, but it was like torture to get through that. I kept complaining about it, and everyone said it just hadn't "gotten good yet." If a book doesn't get good 300 pages into it, I have no desire to read it.

Then again, you're shmoopier than I am, so I don't know, maybe you'll like it. :)

I have never read the books myself. Never really had a desire to either. I have several nieces who are die hards and have offered to mail me their copies to read and enjoy. I guess if your going to jump in you might as well do it when the time is right. As for me I plan to keep my feet planted firmly on the ground. Good luck with your decision. And if you cave, let me know what you think.

never read the books and i don't think i ever will. practically everyone i know is in love with them, but i heard the writing is terrible. i just can't read a book that is poorly written. if twilight doesn't win out, i will recommend "Before Green Gables" by Budge Wilson. It is a prequel to Anne of Green Gables series and it is awesome!
ps - nate and i are so insanely jealous of you and richard right now. seriously. it makes us want to do military. :)

Well, it seems like you've gotten plenty of naysayers so far. I really enjoyed the series. I went into it not looking for literary genius, just entertainment and a bit of escape from the everyday. She's a great storyteller and it definitely was a series that was hard to put down. I listened to the first book on tape and it was hard to get into, but I always thought it was because of the reader. I think it would be a great series to take on while not battling the guilt of "should I be cleaning right now?" I didn't have crazy high expectations so I never felt let down -- I just enjoyed them!

I really liked the first book, the others got a little long and drawn out for me. So I say, read the first book because it really is good, and then decide if you want to go further. (I think you could skip the rest of the books, though, because I thought they got stupid).

Ok so i really liked the books. It's true the more you go on it is drug out, but if can skim over those parts and get the meat of the story, I really enjoyed them! I would say go for it!
P.S. If you do need another fun series there is this one called the hunger games....SOOOO good for young adult author! And such a good writer, she dosen't drag things out! Only if you don't like waiting, don't start cause the last book dosen't come out until next sept. and that stinks! I finished the second and was sooo mad I had to wait a whole nother year to find out what happens!! Ugh!!

Definitely read them! You don't want to be left out in the cold the rest of your life, wondering why they were such a big deal, do you!? I read them last year, and I didn't think they were as good as they were hyped up to be, but they were definitely a fun, frivolous read, and now I'm glad that I can at least have an opinion about the phenomenon that is Twilight. Just do it!! It'll be fun!! Then we can talk about what an idiot of a character Bella is.

I say go for it. Even if you start, get bored, and quit reading them. At least you don't have to wonder and you can make your own opinion. :)

NO!!! Don't give into the hype! I've been the same way :) Everyone says I should read them, but seriously, a romantic vampire story? I think not. If you want a good new book, Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" just came out, and it's at least as good as his other ones. And if you haven't read the other ones, they're awesome! I never got into the Harry Potter hype either. It's like I resist any type of cult-type following of a book! Let us know if you did or not!!

I vote... go ahead and read it. What harm could it do? Not everything has to be deep - it can be just a fun read. But if it's too stupid, put it down and read something else.

It might be entertaining and it never hurts to read practically any book. However, there are just too many really, really great books to read that are entertaining as well. You could find out what its about by going to the movieand spending two hours instead of endless hours reading it. Read Anna Karenina or East of Eden or My Cousin Rachel or hundreds of other great books which a movie will never capture.

Just read it Lori, not just the first bit, but the whole first book. It's fun & entertaining, I think you'll like it. Of course there's better books out there, same thing with TV, but sometimes you just gotta watch Real Housewives and not the Discovery channel all the time, sheesh.
I'm gonna be ticked if all these never-read it people win this vote!

(Don't get offended anyone, I'm just joking)

I am not a fan of her syle of writing and how she makes her characters. I read the New Moon after watching twilight and hated it. I just read it because I had tons of time(it was when I was flying up to Ak and back). I have no desire to read anymore books from her. I will wait for the movie, in my opinion they are so much better and if it sucks it was only a couple hours of my time. So my recommendation is to not bother with them.

So Jared actually read this book before almost any person I know did...Stephenie Meyer was in Mark's ward in Phoenix, so I guess we had an early heads-up. I had to sit through endless hours of "Oh my gosh, I think I am seriously going to THROW UP...oh for goodness sake, who does she think she is???" and on and on and ON. You know Jared. So I am forever biased and can't possibly be un-tainted. But there are plenty of ladies our age out there who AREN'T Jared and who really loved the brain-candy aspect of it...so if that's all you're after, then you're definitely in the right place/time to do it.

However, I must agree with the Ellis family comment about the Hunger Games series. I haven't been that engrossed by a book in a very long time. I'm a super slow reader, and I finished it (about 400 pages) in 2 days. SUPER good. And if it makes a difference, Jared loved it too.
